Hey Friends!
With 2020 upon us, I wanted to take a moment to fill you all in on what’s going on in my life and why this year is going to look a lot different than last year. This is partially for my own accountability, and partially because I’m excited!
On February 29th I’m going to be marrying my favourite human of all time. It’s going to be amazing! We’re doing something small and local, but then splitting our honeymoon time up to visit family in other cities and countries.
What this means is that for the first 6 months of 2020 I am going to be in the middle of a wedding whirlwind – and I want to enjoy every moment of it.
I love Ifs, Ands, or Buttons. I love the work I do and the fact it allows me to give back to local causes that I care about. That will not stop. However, I will be doing considerably less shows in the first 6 months of 2020. This is to give myself the time and space to enjoy everything as it happens.
I will also not be running the same Valentine’s Day fundraiser this year. I thought about this long and hard: I am so proud of how much money was raised last year. But this year has to be a break for that. In typical maker fashion, I’m DIY-ing our favours, centrepieces, and even our flowers. I need the time and space to focus on these pieces.
In short, I have begun to realize that I am human, have limitations, and in order to preserve my mental health and truly enjoy the moments to come, I can’t do everything. And that’s okay. I’m going to go get married as heck – and then ease back into a more predictably intense fall and winter.
I’m not going anywhere – but I am taking a few more breaths!

PS. Since we’re splitting our wedding up, we did engagement photos both here in Ottawa and in Barbados (where Jon’s family is from).
